Instructions

    • 1

Lay a sheet of paper towel or some paper napkins over a microwave-safe plate. If you use paper napkins, avoid thin napkins, because the paper will stick to the cooked bacon.

    • 2

Lay bacon strips on the paper-covered plate. If you need just a few bacon bits, you can use one slice of bacon and cook on a small plate. So the bacon does not hang over the plate, you can cut the slice in half if needed. Do not let the pieces overlap or touch.

    • 3

Cook the bacon about 1 minute per slice of thick bacon. Cooking times may vary depending on the microwave, your altitude and the thickness of the bacon. If you have cut one slice of bacon in half, you will still cook it as if it is one piece of bacon, which would be approximately 1 minute.

    • 4

Turn the bacon over after the microwave turns off, and pat off the excess grease. Cook a few seconds more. You want all the fat to cook off the bacon, without burning the bacon. Cook just a second or so at a time to reach the desired results.

    • 5

Pat the bacon dry, and allow to cool. You can dice the bacon into bits with a knife, or put the bacon into a plastic food-storage bag and crumble the bacon by squeezing the bag.
