Things You'll Need:
- Strawberries
- Small, sharp knife
- cookie sheet(s)
- freezer
- freezer bag(s) or container(s)
-
Step 1
Using a small, sharp knife, cut off the stem and leaves of the strawberries along with the very top portion of the berries. You also want to cut away any bruised spots. Place the berries in a bowl and compost or throw away the cut off portions.
-
Step 2
Wash the berries in cool water to remove any dirt.
-
Step 3
Strawberries on Cookie SheetsPlace the berries, cut side down, onto the cookie sheet(s). The berries should be in a single layer and should not be touching each other. This will allow the berries to freeze individually and not clumped together.
-
Step 4
Place the uncovered cookie sheet(s) into the refrigerator for 1 hour. Then transfer to the freezer for 5-6 hours, or until the strawberries are completely frozen through.
-
Step 5
Slide the frozen strawberries to release them from the cookie sheet(s). Place them in a freezer bag or container and put them back into the freezer.
-
Step 6
Thaw your frozen strawberries for baking, smoothies, or simply to eat.

on 8/8/2009 I like the idea of freezing them on a cookie sheet before putting them in bags. This will help keep the berries in nice condition when you are ready to use them.
