Clean a Brick Fireplace

If used correctly Bricks make for a beautiful texture indoors and outdoors. However bricks can also become stained discolored and just flat out dirty. The course surface of a brick provides many nooks for soot, especially in a brick fireplace. There are a number of different compounds that can be used
to clean the bricks of a fireplace, but the easiest, cheapest, and safest can be found below.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Measure out about one ounce of dish washing soap with a measuring cup.

  2. Step 2

Measure out one ounce of regular table salt.

  3. Step 3

    Mix the two together.

  4. Step 4

Add just enough water so that you make end up with a nice thick paste of all three ingredients.

  5. Step 5

As always with a "do-it-yourself project", use gloves.

  6. Step 6

Take the paste you have created and rub it evenly onto the surface of the brick fireplace using an old rag or clothe, one that you don't mind getting a bit beat up.

  7. Step 7

Let the solution dry on the surface of the brick for roughly fifteen minutes.

  8. Step 8

Once you have let the mixture dry and set into the brick, take a sturdy/stiff brush and scrub the brick well. This process will leave you with a fresh looking brick face on your fireplace. Continue this process until your receive the desired effect evenly across your brick fireplace. Enjoy!
