How to Sew a Beach Bag Tote From a Towel

But with all the sunscreen, sand toys, towels, snacks, water, wallets and dry clothes you need to visit the ocean, you need a sturdy and stylish way to carry it all. 1
Lay out the towel on a flat surface. Cut strips of webbing a little longer than you want the straps to be. Pin the strips of strap webbing to the short sides of the towel, one-quarter of the way in from each side. Use a measuring tape to determine the correct spots. Use a sewing machine and strong thread to sew the webbing onto the towel. Make two rows of stitching the entire length of the towel to be sure the strap is attached well.

2
Fold the beach towel in half with the best side facing in. Fold across the long side, so the two short sides meet at the top. Stitch up both sides of the towel to form a giant pocket shape. Sewing two rows of stitches will make the beach bag sturdy. Turn bag right side out.

3
Place the washcloth where you would like a pocket – either inside or outside the tote. Sew around the bottom and two sides of the washcloth to create the pocket.

4
Stitch on a loop of strong twill ribbon that is looped through a metal key ring for a secure place to attach your car keys when you are at the beach. It will be impossible to lose them if they are attached to the beach bag tote.
