Sew a Patch on a Jacket

To add detail and personality to your favorite jacket, consider sewing on a patch. Sewing a patch on your jacket is also a great way to cover any holes, stains or other imperfections. All it takes is some basic sewing skills and a patch.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle and thread
  • Scissors
  • Straight pin
  1. Step 1

Position your patch on the jacket. Play around with the exact location to be sure you have chosen the perfect spot for your patch. Pin the patch in place with a straight pin.

  2. Step 2

Thread your needle with approximately 14 to 15 inches of thread. Tie a knot in the end.

  3. Step 3

Poke your needle through the underside of the jacket and into the edge of the patch. Pull your thread all the way through before bringing it back down 1/8 inch through the top of the jacket.

  4. Step 4

Pull the needle all the way through to the underside of the jacket and repeat Step 3. Continue this process until you have surrounded the edge of your patch with stitches.

  5. Step 5

Tie a knot in the thread to secure your patch. Trim off any excess thread.
