How to Make a Homemade "Warm Delight" Microwave Cake

If you've never tried those Warm Delights single serve cakes that you make in the microwave, you're missing out! What a great concept! A fast, convenient treat that conquers your cake craving without any leftovers to tempt you to overindulge. They come in various flavors, and two sizes- the 150 calorie mini, and the full sized version (around 350 calories) The only drawback is that they're so very expensive! $2.50 is a lot for one or two little cakes, however convenient. What Betty Crocker doesn't want you to know is that they're super easy to make at home out of regular old boxed cake mix.

Things You'll Need

  • Box of cake mix, any flavor
  • toppings (optional)
  • microwave
  • microwave-safe bowl
  • measuring cup and spoons
  • water

Measure out 1/4 cup cake mix for a 150 calorie mini, or 1/2 cup for a larger cake and put it in your microwave-safe bowl.

Add 1 TBS of water to the mini cake, or 2 TBS for the larger cake and stir. You can add some toppings at this point if you like- try a few lines of hot fudge or caramel from a jar, some chocolate chips, peanut butter, fruit filling, etc.

Microwave on high for 30-45 seconds for the mini, 1:00- 1:30 for the large cake, or until the top of the cake appears mostly dry and it begins to pull away from the sides of the bowl a bit.

That's it! A tasty, convenient treat for mere pennies. Most boxed cake mixes are about 3 1/2 cups- so you get 14 minis or 7 full sized individual cakes out of each box!
