Get the look of a professionally cleaned diamond at home using ordinary household products. Toothpaste has a soft, abrasive texture, yet is gentle enough to clean any diamond. The key to cleaning diamond rings with toothpaste is using a soft-bristled toothbrush, such as a baby toothbrush. Cleaning diamond rings routinely with toothpaste will maintain the luster and brilliance of a professionally cleaned diamond; keeping you from having to pay for a professional cleaning.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Small bowls
  • Soft-bristled toothbrush
  • Cloth
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Fill one bowl with hot water.

  2. Step 2

Fill one bowl with warm water.

  3. Step 3

Place a small amount of toothpaste (not gel) on the toothbrush.

  4. Step 4

Lightly brush the face, sides and underneath of the diamond. Pay careful attention around prongs and the mount; these areas require more cleaning.

  5. Step 5

Place the toothbrush in the warm water occasionally to moisten the bristles.

  6. Step 6

Place the cleaned diamond ring in a bowl of hot water to rinse it thoroughly.

  7. Step 7

Dry it with a soft cloth.

Tips & Warnings
  • Rinsing in hot water allows any remaining water to dry quicker. Cool or cold water takes longer to evaporate in crevices while attracting lint and dust.
  • Rinsing in a bowl of hot water is highly recommended. Don't risk the loss of a diamond ring by rinsing it in the sink under running water.
