How to Make Homemade Hairspray
Hair spray is useful for keeping your coif in place. If you're worried about the chemicals in hair spray, want to save money or prefer to use products with natural ingredients, try concocting your own spray. This recipe requires only two basic ingredients to make a natural hair spray you can store in your fridge. If you want to keep your homemade hair spray in the bathroom or wherever you style your hair, you have the option of adding rubbing alcohol as a preservative. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- 1 Lemon
- Knife
- Pot
- 2 Cups water
- Stove
- Strainer
- Empty spray bottle
- 1 oz. Rubbing alcohol (optional)

Chop the lemon up into small pieces using the knife. Place the chopped lemon in the pot.

Add 2 cups water to the pot; then place the pot on the stove. Bring the mixture to a boil. Continue boiling until the mixture is reduced to one half of its original amount.

Remove the pot from the heat and allow it to cool. Strain the mixture to remove the large lemon pieces.

Pour the remaining mixture into the spray bottle, seal it and store it in the refrigerator.

Add 1 oz. rubbing alcohol to the spray bottle and shake the contents to create a hair spray that can be stored for two weeks outside of the refrigerator.

Substitute an orange for the lemon to make a hair spray that's better for dry hair.
