How to Get Rid of Hard Soap Scum
Soap scum is a white film that builds up on bathroom surfaces. It comes from a combination of the minerals that hard water leaves behind, soap residue and dust. Over time as it builds up it can be quite difficult to wipe away. Soap scum is best tended to before too much of it accumulates as it can begin to smell unpleasant. Pour 3 cups of vinegar into the toilet and scrub it with a toilet brush to remove soap scum and hard water stains.

Put vinegar in a spray bottle and spay it onto the sink and leave it to sit for at least 20 minutes. Wipe the area with a soft clean cloth and rinse with clear water.

Mix 4 cups of hot water and 2 tbsp. of lemon juice in a spray bottle. Spray the area and allow it to sit for 15 minutes before wiping with a soft clean cloth. Dry the area with a soft clean dry towel.

Put plastic shower curtains in the washing machine with a couple of towels. Add a cup of vinegar and allow it to agitate for five minutes. Turn off the washing machine and allow the curtain to soak in the water for an hour before turning it back on to finish the cycle. Hang the curtain to dry.

Mix 2 cups of baking soda with 1 cup of borax. Sprinkle the mixture over the area and scrub the area with a damp sponge. Rinse the area with clear water and dry well with a clean dry towel.

Tips & Warnings
For particularly difficult stains, heat up the vinegar in the microwave or on the stove until it is hot and spray it on the affected area. Allow it to sit for 10 minutes and wipe it away with a clean damp cloth or sponge.
