Measuring for a chain link fence is a surprisingly easy process that you can accomplish in less than an hour with a minimum of preparation or exertion. The hardest part will be deciding where you want the fence to go.
Things You'll Need
- Stakes or sticks
- Tape measure
Start out by sketching your house and yard on a piece of paper. Then decide where you want the fence to go. Most chain link fences either enclose the entire yard or just the back yard and terminate into the side or back of the house.
Lay out the corners and ends of the fence with stakes or sticks or even rocks. Place another marker every eight feet to represent a fence post. Locate the gate and mark the posts.
Starting in one corner or end, measure to the next corner or end and note the distance on the drawing. Now measure to the next post or corner and repeat until you have measured the fence.
Add up the distances measured and then count the number of posts needed by counting the markers and corners. Now you know how much of each item you will need for your chain link fence.
