Instructions

    • 1

Melt aloe vera gel and water together. This recipe makes 1 lb. of shaving soap. To help prevent razor burn or skin irritation, the base for this shaving soap recipe is aloe vera gel. Add 1 lb. aloe vera gel and 3 oz. water to a pot on top of the stove. Set the temperature to medium heat and stir the mixture with a wooden spoon while the aloe slowly melts.

    • 2

Add 2 tbsp. bentonite clay. Once the aloe has fully melted into more of a water-like consistency, add the clay to the pot. The clay gives the shaving soap a thicker nature like that of conventional shaving creams. Stir continuously while the clay mixes into the aloe. It is important to stir often during this step, because the clay is heavy and tends to sink to the bottom.

    • 3

Mix in essential oils and fragrance. For a thick and creamy lather, add 1 oz. castor oil to the pot. You may also add a couple of drops of any oil fragrance. Fragrance goes a long way, and too much will irritate your skin. Stir all of the oils throughout the mixture and then set the heat to low. Let the mixture sit for about 15 minutes.

    • 4

Remove the pot from the heat. Place the pot on a different stove burner to let the mixture cool down for 45 to 60 minutes. The mixture will thicken back to a shaving-soap consistency.

    • 5

Stir the final product after cooling. Mix the product one last time to ensure the equal distribution of all of the ingredients. It is best to store the final product in a container, such as a glass jar, with a screw-on lid. This will keep your shaving soap in good condition.
