Instructions

    • 1

Gather your beeswax. If you are collecting from beehives that are bee-free, soak the honeycombs in warm water to release the honey residue.

    • 2

Boil the honeycombs to melt the wax and separate it out from the honey and other parts of the hive. Gently stir with a wooden spoon to release some of the wax. Some of the ingredients will settle at the bottom of the pot, while the wax collects as a layer above the water. Let cool to remove the wax. Gather your wax pieces and set aside.

    • 3

Pour water into the pot that will be the bottom of your double boiler. Place the other pot or bowl into the pot. Turn the stove on to heat.

    • 4

Place the wax into the top pot or bowl of the double boiler, and heat until melted. Use a strainer to remove any remaining debris.

    • 5

Before the wax cools, pour it into your mold to save for later use. This can be a glass or metal bowl, or a soap mold. Let cool.

    • 6

Release the beeswax from the mold once it is cooled. Store in a cool, dry place.

Tips & Warnings

  • Gather a lot of beeswax and save for your next project. If you produce honey, melt, mold and sell your beeswax as another product for your business.

  • Beeswax is very hot when melted. Wear protective mitts or gloves to prevent burns. Keep away from children.
