How to Clean a Burned Stainless Steel Pot

No matter how careful we try to be, the occasional burning foods in stainless steel cookware happens. Burned food and debris cling to cookware with an admirable tenacity, and can be a nightmare to try and remove. Even running it through the dishwasher is of little help. Fortunately, there are several proven methods that can free your cookware of these dreaded stains, leaving stainless steel stainless again in just a matter of time.

Things You'll Need

• Baking soda
• Dish soap
• Coca-Cola
• Vinegar
• SOS pad
• Liquid fabric softener
• Dryer sheet

Instructions

1. Make a paste of equal parts baking soda and water, and apply it to the burned area. Allow the paste to sit for 15 minutes before scrubbing it away with sponge or a clean cloth. Wash the pot with warm, soapy water.

2. Boil 1 cup of Coca-Cola in the pan for 10 minutes. Pour the Coca-Cola out, and scrub the pot with warm, soapy water and a sponge.

3. Put a cup of vinegar and sprinkle in baking soda liberally. Add a half cup of water, and allow it to simmer on the stove for at least 20 minutes. Pour the mixture out and scrub the pot with and SOS pad.

4. Fill the pot with water and add ¼ cup of liquid fabric softener. Bring the mixture to a boil and remove it from the heat. Allow the mixture to sit in the pot for 24 hours before scrubbing it out with an SOS pad.

5. Fill the pot with water and put a fabric softener sheet in it. Allow it to sit overnight and it will be a lot easier to clean in the morning. Use a soft, clean cloth to wipe the burned food or grease away, and wash with warm, soapy water.
