How to Clean Granite Bathroom Countertops
Granite is a popular material in home construction and remodeling, and is frequently used for kitchen and bathroom countertops. According to the Marble Institute of America (MIA), granite is one of the hardest stones used in construction today, and its durability is unmatched. A cleanser made specifically for granite is your best bet for cleaning your granite bathroom countertops. These cleaners will disinfect and remove stains without leaving a buildup of soap residue or damaging the surface of your countertop. Does this Spark an idea?
Things You'll Need
- Granite cleaner
- Cotton towels
- Paper towels
- Granite sealer, if applicable
Instructions

1
Buy a cleaner designed specifically for granite, such as Marbamist spray cleaner or Method Granite and Marble Cleaner.
-
2
Do not use regular soap on your granite countertops. Soap will leave a residue no matter how well you rinse it, and will dull the glossy finish. Avoid harsh chemicals as well, like bleach and abrasive cleansers.
-
-
3
Spray a liberal amount of the granite cleaner directly onto the countertop, making sure it covers the entire surface.
-
4
Leave the cleaner on the countertop for 1 minute.
-
5
Rub the cleaner around the surface of the countertop using a clean cotton towel, and then dry the countertop using a separate towel.
-
6
Use the cleaner whenever the countertop is dirty. Most granite cleaners are formulated for daily use, but check your product label to make sure.
-
7
Deal with any spills or stains immediately after they occur, especially if you spill perfume or rubbing alcohol. Blot the liquid with a clean paper towel rather than rubbing it into the countertop. Like all stones, granite is somewhat porous, according to the MIA, and the countertop will absorb liquid if is left on the surface.

Seal your granite bathroom countertops at least once a year to keep them looking new. You can pay a professional to do it, or you can seal your countertops yourself using sealer purchased from your local home improvement store. Refer to the Resources section for more information on how to seal your countertops.

Granite is naturally anti-microbial...and once you seal it, it's good for 3-5 years! Granite is definitely the premier countertop surface these days. Lowes has some great granite vanity tops made by a company called Jackson Stoneworks.
