      Start Microsoft Word. Select "New" from the "File" menu in Word 2003, or click the "Office Button" and select "New" in Word 2007.

      Enter "invitation" in the "Microsoft Online" templates search box. Click "Go." A list of invitation templates will appear.

      Choose the best suited invitation for the party. In Word 2007, the templates will appear in the preview pane. In Word 2003 or earlier, click on the template name in the list to preview it. Click on the desired template to select it, and then click the "Download" button. The party invitation template will open.

      Place the cursor inside of each text box and enter custom text. Include specifics, such as the time, date, location and guest of honor. Change the font and color, if desired. Select the text, right click and choose "Font." Change the font attributes and click "OK" to apply the changes.

      Save the invitation after making all the desired changes and customizations. Click "File" in Word 2003 or earlier, or the "Office Button" in Word 2007, and then select "Print." Print the invitations onto card stock or heavy printer paper. Fold accordingly and place into envelopes.
