Make Tie-Dye Easter Eggs

Add interest and vibrancy to your Easter eggs this season. These tie-dye eggs will look gorgeous in any basket, and they are fun and so easy to make that even the little ones can create their own tie-dye egg creations!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • White Eggs, hard-boiled
  • Vinegar
  • Food Coloring, 3 or 4 colors
  • Strainer or Colander
  1. Step 1

Hard boil as many white eggs as you would like to decorate.

  2. Step 2

Put a colander or strainer in the sink. Place the hard-boiled eggs in the strainer or colander.

  3. Step 3

Splash the eggs with vinegar. You do not have to worry about completely covering each egg with vinegar, as sporadic coverage will add to the tie-dye effect.

  4. Step 4

Next, choose your first color of food coloring. Drip a few drops of food coloring on each egg. Gently agitate the colander or strainer so that the eggs are gently turning. This will cause the color to spread out onto the egg. Let the color sit on the eggs for about a minute.

  5. Step 5

Add your second color by again dripping a few drops of the color over each egg. Once again, gently agitate the eggs to spread the color. Allow the eggs to sit for another minute.

  6. Step 6

Repeat the above step with any remaining colors you are using. Once you are finished adding colors, and the eggs have sat for a minute or so, lightly rinse the eggs in cool water. Again, allow the eggs to sit for another minute. Remove each of the eggs and sit them on a paper towel to air dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • It is best to only use 3 colors of food coloring. If you use more than that, the colors may bleed together and look mucky.
  • For even more variety, you can add a couple of rubber bands to the eggs in any pattern you wish to add to the tie-dye affect.
  • Take caution when boiling the eggs. Do not allow small children to get too close to the boiling water or the hot stove burner.
