Things You'll Need:
- Imagination
- Knowledge about going green
- Friends
- A place to host a party (your house will do)
-
Step 1
The invitations! Look around for old birthday cards, greeting cards, etc. We all have them hanging around. Find the ones that have something to do with nature, the green ones, maybe party themed ones. If you don't have any left, but have recycled ones available or recycled card stock available these will work. If the back of the cover is blank, tear off the cover and flip it over. Write the basic information, Time, Place, Date, etc. on the back of the cover. Leave room for the name and address of the person you are inviting to the party. Make sure you note on the invitation that this is a green party.
-
Step 2
If you drink soda from a can or plan to serve drinks from cans, have a box, trash can or bag clearly marked for the recycled cans. Do the same if you plan to serve drinks from plastic bottles.
* We made lemon/lime punch by putting lime sherbet in a bowl and pouring Sprite, Ginger Ale, or 7-Up over it. -
Step 3
If there will be children there, have a recycling craft there for them to make. There are many you could do like a Genie Bottle Bank or a set of Bookends. You can ask the adults to bring the items you will need (jars, scraps of material, used tissue paper, juice bottles, etc). The directions to these crafts are listed in the resource area.
-
Step 4
Food. Don't worry, I'm not going to suggest recycling it. Plan your food to be green in color.
1. Celery sticks, broccoli and green peppers with ranch dip (add a few drops of green food coloring for fun).
2. St. Patrick Day Parfaits (Recipe is in the resource section).
3. Shamrock Ice-Cream Sandwiches (Recipe is in the resource section).
4. Green Jello squares.
5. Honeydew, white grapes, kiwi, lime slices are all good fruit choices.
* The possibilities are endless so be creative. -
Step 5
Do some research.
1. If there will be children at the party, find or make some fun puzzle sheets that give them information on Recycling, Reducing, Recovering and Reusing.
2. If there are adults there (or send it home with the children) do a flier up of simple ways we can go green at home (I've listed several in the resource section). There are tons of ways we can Recycle, Reduce, Recover and Reuse at home. Make the paper eye-catching.
3. If you are really crafty, make a small gift they can take home with them. Maybe you can make a bumper sticker for their car that says something about going green. Maybe you can make a refrigerator magnet out of recycled material as a memento from your party. Be creative.
4. If you have this for teens, you can give them a t-shirt and let them decorate it. You can buy packs of white t-shirts and dye them green or if you know how to tie-dye that's even better. You can also leave them white. Either way, the teens can decorate with paint markers to put a recycle, reduce, recover and reuse message on them.
