Things You'll Need:
- Zelda action figures (Link and Zelda) 9 x 13-inch cake, baked and cooled Butter cream frosting (green, blue, brown, yellow) Brown jelly beans Cake decorating tubes and tips Cake display tray Toothpick
-
Step 1
Invert the cake onto the cake tray and frost it with a crumb layer of green frosting. This is a thin layer that traps crumbs so that the cake decorator can frost the cake without it looking messy.
-
Step 2
Sketch out features for Hyrule Field by lightly marking a place for a narrow stream in the frosting with a toothpick. Also mark where the figures of Link and Zelda will eventually stand.
-
Step 3
Create Hyrule Field in cake form by using the cake decorating tube and "grass" tip. Cover the area with "grass" except for where the stream will be. Change the tips and make small clusters of flowers with a leaf tip (green) and a floral tip (yellow). In the game, flowers and shrubs can hide helpful treasures or hidden enemies.
-
Step 4
Decorate the stream with blue frosting from a cake decorating tube. Set out a few brown jelly beans to resemble rocks. In the game, Link often finds bags of gold coins or other helpful items buried beneath rocks in Hyrule Field.
-
Step 5
On the side of the cake, pipe small yellow triangles to represent the components of the Triforce--three magical elements that characters in the game are searching for. They are a common component of all the Zelda games, so piping the yellow triangles onto the cake will definitely add significance to a Zelda birthday cake.
-
Step 6
Place the Legend of Zelda action figures in place on the cake so they look as if they are standing in the midst of Hyrule Field. Don't forget to include the name of the birthday boy or girl on the cake.
