How to Clean the Lens on a Nintendo Gamecube
Although the Nintendo GameCube is going on its 10th year and has been replaced by the newer Wii console, the console is still fun to fire up every once and a while. And if you have an extensive GameCube game collection, it is definitely worth keeping your old system around. However, as with any aging console, it is important to keep the disc reading lens in good shape to preserve the life of your console.

Open the top of your GameCube by pressing on the gray "Open" button. Wait for the tray cover to pop up completely.

Grab a lint-free cloth (such as an eyeglass or electronics-specific cleaning cloth) and give the lens a dry rub. Do not use any water or solution, as the purpose of this step is simply to remove any surface dust.

Dab some lens-cleaning solution (this can be found at most electronics stores) on your lint-free cloth and then gently rub the surface of the lens. It is important not to use a lot of pressure, as the GameCube lens is delicate and too much pressure will break the lens and render your system useless.

Use a dry section of your cloth to rub away any excess moisture. Your lens should be dry and dust-free once this process is complete. Any leftover moisture can cause your lens to read improperly, so it is important to make sure that the lens is completely dry before closing the lid.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use Q-Tips to clean your GameCube lens. Although you may hear advice to the contrary, Q-Tips are made of loose cotton, which can easily break apart and lodge between the small crevices in your GameCube Console. Q-Tips also stir up dust rather than absorb it, and the cotton can damage the GameCube's sensitive lens.
