How to Paint the Edges without Using Tape

Save

Does your wall need a fresh coat of paint? My guide will show you an easy way to paint without using any tape. Who wants to spend hours to tape up the edges anyways!

Things You'll Need

  • Paint brush
  • Drop cloth
  • Painting tools
  • Usually you start a paint project by taping up all the edges around the room but you can skip that step with my easy method. Start by going to your local Home Depot to pick up some paint supplies. Be sure to pick up the most important tool for this project, a Shur-Line edge painter. This easy to use tool has two tiny wheels on the top so when you paint along the ceiling or any other edge, it will produce a consistent straight line without getting paint on the ceiling. This will save you tons of time.

  • When you are ready to start, place a drop cloth around the painting area to prevent paint from staining the floor. For existing walls with a light color, you probably don't need to apply primer. So go ahead and just paint over it. I would start with the Shur-Line painter, dip it in the paint and do all the edges around the room first. No more time wasted appling tape to the edges.

  • Once you are done with all the edges, just a hand roller with an extension rod to paint the body of the wall. Apply even pressure throughout the whole wall. When you are done with the first coat of paint, let it dry for an hour. Go back and check the wall for missed spots. You can easily use a hand paint brush to do the touch up. Enjoy you new wall color!

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you calculate how much paint you need
  • Buy the right tools, especially the Shur-Line painter
