How to Install Car Window Tinting
it's possible to install tint to the windows of your automobile yourself without resorting to the expense of professional installation. However, be warned that it is not a job for the impatient or the sloppy. Installing window tint is a laborious and time-consuming task that requires a great deal of precision to avoid an amateurish job filled with air bubbles. The job can be accomplished with tools that you already have on hand, which is what is described here, but this requires an added amount of diligence during your installation.

1
Clean your windows thoroughly with soap and water and your magic eraser. If necessary, use your razor blade to remove any dirt that was not removed during the washing.
-
2
Laying your tint on the exterior of your window, with the protective film side out and using your razor blade, cut a template for your window.

3
When you have cut the template, use your razor blade to lift a corner of the protective film and begin to peel it away from the tint. While pulling with one hand, spray soapy water over the entire surface of the exposed tint, never spraying directly in one place.
-
4
When you have removed the entire film, and without touching the tint directly (lift from the corners), transfer the tint to the interior window after spraying the interior with soapy water.
-
5
Attach the tint from top to bottom; once you have the top portion installed, wipe from left to right, firmly pressing down, with your squeegee. It is essential that you touch only the glass and the edges of your tint; do not touch the tint directly. Lift the bottom unattached portion, spray liberally with water and lower the tint into place. Squeegee the tint so that it adheres to the window, then, wrapping your hard card in paper towel (so as to avoid scratching) rub the tint up and down to force out any excess water. When attaching tint to windows that roll down, do not take the tint to the edge of the glass; allow a small amount of room to avoid peeling.

Tips & Warnings
Do not use a razor blade to clean interior windows on cars with rear defrost. Check local ordinances for acceptable degrees of tint before selecting the tint for your car.
