Things You'll Need:
- Boxes/ plastic tubs
- Garbage bags
- Masking tape
- Pen/Pencil/Marker
-
Step 1
Begin by making a list of all the rooms and closets in your home that need to be gone through. List them in the order you want to tackle them. Write down a time frame you are willing to set apart. Example: Give yourself two weeks to complete your project and set aside two days per room.
-
Step 2
Focus on one room at a time. This will help with not feeling overwhelmed by the dreaded task ahead. Set up boxes labeling them "keep/store, "giveaway/thrift store donation", and garbage bag for items not worth salvaging.
-
Step 3
Start at one end of the room by picking up one item at a time and placing them in the appropriate box or garbage bag. If you are an avid recycler, label boxes or bags with the appropriate title of "glass", "cardboard", and "paper".
-
Step 4
Once you've finished sorting out the items in each room, set aside boxes to be brought to the thrift store. Place garbage bags on street for garbage pick-up. And finally store away the items that you will no longer be using for the upcoming months whether they are seasonal or you just plain need a break from them.
-
Step 5
Finish off each room by sweeping and washing floors and walls. Search the internet for easy home-made cleaning solutions to reduce the chemicals and toxins in your home. Add new items such as curtains or bedspreads that will give your home a more spring/summer feel. At the end of your two weeks enjoy the fact that you are finished will this daunting task and will now be able to enjoy spring to the fullest!
