Clean a Coffee Maker With a Natural Cleaner

It's important to clean a coffee maker at least once a month in order to ensure that your coffee maker delivers a great tasting cup of coffee every morning, and to make sure that the coffee maker stays in good working condition for a long time! The Best way to clean a coffee maker is using natural ingredients, since you are bound to ingest small amounts of whatever you use to clean the coffee maker.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

It's easy to clean a coffee maker. First, make a solution of one part vinegar to two parts water in your coffee pot. If you are using a twelve-cup coffee pot, this means that you should put 4 cups of vinegar into the pot, and fill the rest of the pot up with water.

  2. Step 2

Pour the vinegar and water solution into the reservoir of your coffee maker, and run it through the machine as if you were going to make a pot of coffee. You should still put an empty filter in your machine, especially if you use a metal filter. Once the vinegar solution has completed it's cycle through your coffee maker, let the solution sit in the heated coffee pot for about 1/2 of an hour, then discard the vinegar solution.

  3. Step 3

Your coffee maker is now clean; however, you should run a pot of clean water through the machine to flush out any remaining taste of vinegar.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you still detect a smell of vinegar, after completing this process, you can run another pot of clean water through the machine.

on 2/27/2009 It is time for me to do this again. But, I think I'll wait until I can open up the house. Vinegar steam doesn't smell too good!
