When dust gets inside a rear projection television, the picture quality degrades. Dust, insects and spider webs inside the television can show through noticeably when watching a show. You can open the television and clean out the dust, insects and spider webs. Cleaning the television can return the image quality back to how it was when the television was new. Before you clean out your own television, check with your warranty. Opening the television may void any warranty that you have on the television.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Can of air Screw driver set Microfiber lens cleaning cloth Rubbing alcohol
  1. Step 1

    Unplug the television.

  2. Step 2

Open the television. To open the television, you need to remove the screws in the television case. Look around the whole television carefully to find the screws that are holding the case together. Remove the screws and set them aside. Once all of the screws are removed, the case will pull apart so that you can gain access to the inside of the television. If the case is not easily coming apart, you have not removed all of the screws. Carefully look around to find the other screws and remove them.

  3. Step 3

Use the can of air to spray out any dusty areas or spider web areas inside the television. Pay special attention to the television lenses. Always hold the can of air upright when spraying. If the can of air is held in any other position during spraying, it can release fluids. A can of air can be purchased at most electronics stores.

  4. Step 4

Clean the television lenses with a clean microfiber camera lens cloth that has been lightly saturated with rubbing alcohol. Wipe the lenses gently until all of the dirt and dust is removed. Do not use any other type of cloth. Other types of cloth can permanently scratch the television lenses.

  5. Step 5

Screw the television case back together and plug the television back in.
