1
Select cotton fabric in the color and design you prefer. Cut two 8 x 8 inch squares of fabric and one 8 x 8 inch square of quilt batting.
-
2
Layer the squares with the batting in the middle and the two pieces of fabric facing out on both sides. Pin the layers together with quilting pins, starting in the middle and working to the outside edge, smoothing away wrinkles as you go.

Create a diamond-shaped quilting pattern by marking an X from corner to corner with a fabric pencil and a ruler. Mark lines parallel to the center lines at 1-inch intervals, working from the center to the edges.
-
4
Sew on the lines using a neutral-colored cotton thread, beginning with one of the center diagonal lines and working your way along all the parallel lines. Repeat from the opposite diagonal center line. You will have created a diamond-shaped quilting pattern.

5
Cut a strip of bias tape 34 inches long. Pin the bias tape in place around the edge of the pot holder, beginning at one corner. There will be about 2 inches extra at the fourth corner. Topstitch the bias tape in place. Fold the remaining 2-inch section of bias tape to form a loop for hanging the pot holder. Sew it in place at the seam.
