What to Use to Clean a Fiberglass Shower Pan

Fiberglass shower pans are usually made with a non-stick surface to prevent slipping and falling, but the textured surface of the pan is more difficult to keep clean than a smooth pan. Over time, a fiberglass shower pan can become darkened and stained. Usually, there isn't much you can do about it. However, homeowners have tested and tried certain products and have developed a small list of household cleaners that can bring a fiberglass shower pan back to life.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Paper towels
• White vinegar
• Baking soda
• Scouring pad
• The Works T-Bowl cleaner
• Scrub brush
• 20 Mule Team Borax
• Dishwasher powder

1. Plug the drain. Cover the floor with paper towels, and pour white vinegar over the paper towels,1/2 inch thick. Let it sit and soak overnight. Remove the paper towels in the morning and rinse the pan well.

2. Make a paste by mixing 4 parts baking soda with 1 part water. Use a scouring pad and scrub the fiberglass shower pan with the paste. Rinse well.

3. Squirt into the shower a product called The Works T-Bowl cleaner. Add water and scrub the pan with a scrub brush. Rinse well. This product has strong fumes, so ventilate the room properly.

4. Sprinkle 20 Mule Team Borax over a wet shower pan floor. Let the Borax sit on the pan floor for 10 minutes. Scrub with a brush and rinse.

5. Wet the fiberglass shower pan floor and add a layer of dishwasher powder. Let it sit on the floor for an hour. Scrub well with a bathroom brush and rinse well.

Tips & Warnings

• If the stains do not scrub clean, spray-paint the shower pan with a marine or fiberglass boat paint. A few other reliable products for successfully cleaning your fiberglass shower pan are Oxyclean, Blue Wave Tile Cleaner, Bar Keepers Friend and Mr. Clean Eraser. All of these products are sold at grocery and hardware stores.
• If the undercoat of your fiberglass shower pan is showing, there's no need to clean it. Now it's time to re-coat it. Buy a re-coating kit from the hardware store.
