How to Fix a Torn Vinyl Spa Cover

Your child or dog has just ripped a hole in your vinyl spa cover, and you really can't afford a few hundred dollars to replace it. Can you fix it yourself? With some basic items and a bit of patience, your spa cover will be good as new before you know it.

Things You'll Need

  • Heavy duty vinyl pool repair kit
  • Duct tape
  • Postal shipping tape
  • Clean the torn area of your spa cover on both sides, and let it dry thoroughly.

  • From the patch kit, cut two patches to the size of the tear, adding one inch on all sides. Trim the corners of the patches so they're rounded.

  • Apply the adhesive from the pool kit to the top side of the tear, covering the tear and an area one inch around it.

  • Place the first patch on the area of glue and press down, removing any air bubbles that may be trapped beneath the patch.

  • Turn the cover over and repeat steps three and four to the bottom side of the torn spa cover.

  • Allow to dry according to patch manufacturer's instructions; usually one to two hours.

Tips & Warnings

  • Duct tape or postal shipping tape can be used to cover the tear if a patch kit is unavailable.
