Instructions

    • 1

Clear yourself a work area on a tabletop. Place the box on top of the table and roll out enough brown paper to wrap the box, leaving enough space for the sides. For instance, if you use a little box that is six inches wide and four inches deep, maybe you would want the sides to be about 10 inches tall. Cut the paper.

    • 2

Lay the box on the paper and prepare to wrap the bottom of the box as though you were wrapping a present. Keep the folds and the cut lines straight. Use the double-sided tape to secure the folds down on the bottom and tape the seam coming up the side. Do not wrap the top of the box. Alternatively, you can use glue, but allow it extra time to dry.

    • 3

Slide the box out of the wrapping of brown paper. You should be left with a square paper bag. Insert a piece of cardboard in the bottom if you need extra strength. If you need to fold it, you can push the center of the sides in, keeping the bottom flat, and fold it like a grocery bag.

    • 4

Decorate the bag by folding the top edge down by a little. Punch a couple of holes in the sides and thread a ribbon through for handles like a gift bag, if desired. Once you have made a bag, you will see how this method can be used with various types of paper for different uses.

Attach a fun label to the front if the bag is going to be used for merchandise like soaps or candles or even cookies. Children can color the paper before it is glued together or attach beads and fun art to the sides when it is finished.
