How to Make a Tee Shirt Dress

Whether you choose from a favorite tee shirt in your closet or go out and buy a new one, tee shirt dresses are fun and easy to jazz up your wardrobe. The little girls love them and they can be dressed up or down according to the event. There are several different methods and I will include some sites below for a few of them. The one we are going to use today does not involve cutting your tee shirt.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

• Tee Shirt
• 1 and 3/4 yards of Cotton Fabric
• Matching Thread
• Sewing machine
• Favorite embellishments

1. If your tee shirt is brand new wash it and dry it according to instructions. If it is a favorite from your closet just make sure its clean to start your project.

2. Measure your hip area and multiply that by 2 and 1/2 times to get your fabric requirement. Press your fabric smoothly and if it is in pieces sew the sides together to make a long tube like piece of fabric.

3. Gather one of the long sides of the fabric together and adjust so that the gathers are evenly spaced. (for instructions on gathering please see links below). Attach this gathered edge to the bottom of your tee shirt with your sewing machine.

4. Hem the bottom edge to desired length and there you have it, one perfect tee shirt dress.

Tips & Warnings

• You can applique a piece of the same ruffled fabric to the tee shirt for decoration or make a ribbon or bow to decorate the collar.
• Don't be afraid to mix fabrics and be creative here.
• Tier the ruffles for a different effect.
• Always be careful when using scissors or a sewing machine.
