Know What to Do in Case of a Fire

Fire safety is extremely important and can save the lives of many if studied and practiced on a regular basis. You never know when a fire may occur so your best bet is to always be prepared. Here you will learn what to do in case of a fire.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Always have smoke detectors set up in your house on every level. If you hear a smoke alarm sound off your best bet is to assume that there is a fire.

  2. Step 2

Have a fire safety plan ready beforehand. Your family should always discuss the potential event of a fire and have two escapes for each room planned out, as well as a meeting place outside.

  3. Step 3

Determine whether or not you can smell smoke. This is one of the biggest indicators that there is a fire.

  4. Step 4

Feel closed doors for warmth. If the door is hot then it is time to go back and take your second escape route from the room.

  5. Step 5

If there is smoke make sure you crawl low and try not to inhale it.

  6. Step 6

DO NOT take anything of value from the house. You may not have time to do this. It is best to get out of the house and be safe.

  7. Step 7

Find your outside meeting place and call your emergency numbers immediately.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always discuss a fire safety plan with your family and have an outdoor meeting place.
  • Memorize emergency numbers in case of this event.
  • DO NOT go back for valuable possessions.
