How to Clean a Cool Mist Humidifier

This article is for cool mist humidifiers that are for nursery or home use to ease congestion, not for medical humidifiers. It only takes a few minutes to clean and disinfect a cool mist humidifier. Cleaning your cool mist humidifier should be done both before and after use to insure safe usage for yourself and your family.

      Take the top part off of the cool mist humidifier and put aside, This is the part with the power cord. Empty basin of any remaining water and wash well in warm soapy water then rinse with plenty of clear water.

      fill basin to 1/2 full with white vinegar, reattach top portion of the cool mist humidifier and plug in to activate. Note it will expel a mist of white vinegar! Allow to run for 1-2 minutes and turn off.

      Disassemble cool mist humidifier and empty basin of any remaining white vinegar. Rinse well and fill with clean fresh water.

      reassemble cool mist humidifier and again let run for 1-2 minutes to clear the white vinegar out of the system, then again turn off.

      Disassemble system, drain reservoir and dry thoroughly. System is now cleaned and disinfected and ready for storage or re-use.
