Give a Champagne Toast at a Wedding

A champagne toast is used to give regards and best wishes to a newly married couple at their wedding. If you are planning to attend the wedding of a family member or friend that you are close to, then you may be asked or wish to give a champagne toast at the wedding. Below are a few tips to help you give a champagne toast at a wedding.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Know the appropriate time to give a champagne wedding toast. As a general rule, all guests should be served drinks before the wedding toasts begin.

  2. Step 2

If you want to give a champagne toast, but are not sure of the proper time to give the wedding toast, wait for someone else to begin the round of toasts. In general, the order of pouring the wedding toasting beverage is: the bride, the groom, the maid or matron of honor; and the other guests at the head table, with the best man receiving his drink last. The best man then gives the first champagne toast, followed by the fathers of the bride and groom, the groom, and so on.

  3. Step 3

When your turn to speak before the wedding party comes, relax. Remember that everyone is there to have a good time, including you. Smile, be confident, and take the moment to shine as you give your champagne toast.

  4. Step 4

Remember to stand while giving a champagne wedding toast.

  5. Step 5

Keep the wedding toast short... When attending a wedding of family members or friends that you are close to, you may be called upon to give a wedding toast. With this in mind, it may be worth your time to prepare a small speech ahead of time in case you are asked to give a champagne toast at the wedding. Preparation can help to make the process go more smoothly.

  6. Step 6

... but keep the champagne wedding toast sweet. Think about the bride and groom – what are some of the things about each that are funny, poignant, and sweet? When making a champagne wedding toast, stick to the positives. Make a list of anecdotes that describe the qualities that have brought the couple together or give each person their own special qualities. Good places to start – how do you know the bride or groom? What was the person like when you first met them? How have they changed since meeting each other? If you are already married, do you have any advice for the newlywed couple? Use this as inspiration to prepare your champagne wedding toast.

  7. Step 7

Make sure that the champagne wedding toast stays on point. Remember that the day belongs to the bride and groom. If you want to draw attention to yourself, make sure that you draw good attention to yourself by giving an eloquent or (appropriately) funny and tasteful champagne wedding toast.

  8. Step 8

Last, but not least: Once you have made your speech to the wedding party remember to drink to your own champagne toast! Article text © 2009 by urbandill. All rights reserved
