Consider turning your garage into a playroom in order to keep your kids bedrooms clean while allowing everyone full access to their toys.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bug spray
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Rubber flooring
  • Storage drawers or bins
  • Space heater
  • Chairs
  1. Step 1

Empty the garage and sweep it thoroughly. Sweep the floors and walls to ensure that all spider webs are cleared from the area.

  2. Step 2

Spray a child and pet friendly bug spray to remove any existing pests and to prevent pests from coming into the play area.

  3. Step 3

Lay down rubber flooring. Choose rubber flooring that fits together like puzzle pieces to allow you to customize the size of the play place.

  4. Step 4

Line one wall with storage containers that have drawers in them. For small kids, choose containers that are see through so they can easily see what's inside each drawer. Not only does this help the kids find the toys they want, it also makes clean up easier.

  5. Step 5

Place a desk or a table along the adjoining wall so kids have a place to use as a building or work surface. For several children, consider placing a hollow core door on top of storage containers to make a large desk area that everyone can use.

  6. Step 6

Install a space heater for cool weather. Choose a space heater that remains cool to the touch and that turns off automatically if it's tipped over. Consider mounting a shelf out of children's reach and placing the heater on that shelf.

  7. Step 7

Add chairs for the kids to sit on while playing. For ease of clean up, choose lawn furniture rather than upholstered furniture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure containers are safe and sturdy to prevent accidents.
  • Clearly label each drawer with the contents that belong inside.
  • Spray for pests monthly.
