Making soap from scratch is a complicated, drawn-out process that requires a fair amount of expertise. The melt-and-pour method, however, allows even beginners to make a beautiful bar of soap. While the method is incredibly simple, it also allows you to completely customize your soap when it comes to the scent and other ingredients. A mix of oils and dried herbs allows you to create a great lavender sage olive oil soap bar.

Instructions

    • 1

Set up a double boiler on your stove so that the water in the bottom section simmers.

    • 2

Use a knife to cut up a block of vegetable glycerin soap base into the top of the double boiler.

    • 3

Stir constantly as the soap base slowly melts into liquid.

    • 4

Add a few drops of lavender essential oil, a small handful of dried sage and a teaspoon or so of olive oil. Stir well to incorporate.

    • 5

Pour the hot liquid carefully into soap molds that have been lightly coated with cooking-oil spray.

    • 6

Drop the soap mold gently on a table to make any air bubbles rise. Spray the bubbles away with rubbing alcohol in a plastic spray bottle.

    • 7

Allow the soap to cool and harden completely before turning the molds upside down and easing the bars out.
