How to Plan A Fun Medieval Theme Party
The Medieval Era, also called the Dark Ages and the Middle Ages, extended from approximately 500 AD to 1500, according to the University of North Carolina website. Marked by the poetry of Beowulf, the stories of King Arthur and Gothic architecture, most people know the achievements and beauty of the period. Many people, however, do not know how to put together a Medieval theme party. Wherever and for whatever purpose you choose to throw your party, use art, movies and music for your inspiration. Set out several costumes. If you cannot afford the cost of providing Medieval costumes to a group of people, include accouterments for attendants to wear while participating in the event; flowered garlands and plastic shields, for example, suit the Medieval theme.

Place flowered garlands around any doorways, overhangs or gazebos. Additionally, sprinkle your event space with images of knights, dragons, castles or even iconography from the black plague, for a scary Medieval party.

Play traditional Medieval music on the stereo, or hire musicians to play your Medieval party. Look for sound tracks with these instruments.

During the game, encourage the participants to shout out magic spells.

Setup "tool making" or workshops, where children and adults alike can participate in traditional Medieval crafts. For stone carving, use pre-bought soap stone carving sets. For blacksmithing, include a piece of wood and a foam hammer, but don't use actual fire unless you have someone adept at blacksmithing.

Plan a choreographed sword fight. To do this, ask a local group of actors, weapons masters or combat specialists to perform.
