Step 1
Purchase a daily planner. If you don't already have a planner book, you should purchase one. It can help you organize everything for your party. From the food, you need to purchase to all your entertainment ideas. You can find very affordable planners at most retail stores.
-
Step 2
Create a guest list. It is helpful to know just how many people are going to attend the party. Make a list that can be easily marked off when you receive responses. Also remember sometimes people will not readily accept because they aren't sure and may not even know until the day before the party. Always prepare for a few extra people just in case you have more than expected.
-
Step 3
Mail your invitations. Always have an RSVP card with the invitation. This way people will get back to you if they are coming. Make a follow-up phone call or send a follow-up email to make sure you have an accurate list.
-
Step 4
Choose a party theme. Most of the time hosts will use a particular theme for the party. If you would rather not choose a theme, you can always aim for a comfortable and casual theme. Whatever you decide, if you do a costume theme, for example, be sure to include it on the invitation so the guests can arrive in the appropriate attire.
-
Step 5
Be responsible. If you plan to serve alcohol at your party you should either have taxi arrangements made ahead of time or designate a driver. Depending on how large your guest list is, you might consider having a few designated drivers just to be on the safe side.

Step 6
Make your shopping list. It is best to choose simple finger foods for a New Year's Eve party. This allows guests to have multiple choices as well as food they can eat while mingling around the room.
