How to Make Your Own Peppermint Hot Cocoa Mix
Nothing warms a child's tummy like hot cocoa on a winter's day. Regular cocoa is a welcome treat and peppermint cocoa is even tastier to some. If you're breaking out the packets of cocoa mix, you're using more money than necessary. Make a large batch of peppermint hot cocoa mix. In just a few minutes you'll have enough cocoa powder to warm months of snowy weather, or plenty to package and give as holiday gifts to lucky friends.
Things You'll Need
- 40 round peppermint candies
- 3 cups coffee creamer powder
- 3 cups powdered sugar
- 2-1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa
- Food processor
- Zip-top bags
- Rolling pin
- Large bowl
- Spoon
- Tablespoon
- Coffee mug

Place 40 round red-and-white peppermint candies into a food processor. Pulse the candies until they turn into a powder. If you don't have a food processor, place the candies in a large zip-top bag and hit them with a rolling pin or other large object until they are crushed.

Pour 3 cups of powdered sugar, 3 cups of coffee creamer powder, 2-1/4 cups of unsweetened cocoa and the powdered peppermint candy into a large bowl. Stir the ingredients with a large spoon until they are completely mixed.

Spoon the cocoa powder into zip-top bags. Close the bags and store them in a cool, dry place until you're ready to use them or give them as gifts.

Measure 3 heaping tbsp. into a coffee mug. Fill the mug with simmering hot water. Stir the mixture until all the powder dissolves. Enjoy the peppermint hot cocoa.

Use 10 leftover candy canes instead of the round mints for an even more frugal mix.
