You never know when you need a tutu. It could be for a child's holiday pageant costume or a Halloween ballerina costume. Maybe a little girl just wants to play dress-up in the fluffy skirt. Regardless of reason, it's possible to make a quick tutu in less than an hour.

Things You'll Need

  • Ribbon
  • Tulle
  • Scissors

Cut a length of ribbon so it can go around the child's waist at least twice. Wrap it around and tie in a bow.

Measure from your child's waist to mid-thigh. Cut strips of tulle twice as long as this measurement. The tulle must be about 4 to 6 inches wide. The wider the strips are, the more full the tutu will be.

Pull the end of the tulle under the ribbon so you have one end of tulle on each side of the ribbon. Tie the strip of tulle over the ribbon and fluff it.

Tie pieces of tulle all the way around the ribbon until the tutu is as full as you would like it to be.

Tips & Warnings

  • You may need to experiment with the length and width of the tulle strips depending on the size of your child.
