This is the blanket stitch. It can be used as a way to add a crochet edging to a solid piece of fabric, fleece, linen, placemats or napkins.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Needle
  • Yarn
  • Blanket
  1. Step 1

    Pull the yarn through to the top of your fabric. Hold on to the yarn with your left hand.

  2. Step 2

    Insert the needle to the right 1/4" to 1/2" over(horizontal) from the previous vertical line and 1/2" to 3/4" down(vertical) from the edge.

  3. Step 3

    Make sure the needle goes over the top of the yarn you are holding with your left hand.

  4. Step 4

    Pull the yarn through. You will have sort of a horseshoe shape or upside down U shape.

  5. Step 5

    You will have sort of a horseshoe shape or upside down U shape.

  6. Step 6

    Repeat the previous steps for each following stitch.

  7. Step 7

    You can make your stitches wider apart or closer together

  8. Step 8

    You can make your stitches longer or shorter in length.

  9. Step 9

    Once the blanket stitch is complete, you will have a nice solid foundation to crochet around a piece of fabric.
