Make Hot Cocoa Cones for Christmas Gift Giving (a Favorite Things Gift as Seen on Oprah)

If you'd like to make little gifts for your child's teachers or class, the economy has you strapped for cash this Christmas, you should make and give out hot cocoa cones. Cocoa cones are plastic bag sleeves filled with enough goodies to make two to three cups of hot cocoa. The end product looks like an ice cream cone.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Plastic pastry decorating bags (cone shaped)
  • Hot cocoa mix (it's cheaper to buy a can or jar rather than individual packets)
  • 1/4 cup measuring cup
  • TBS measuring spoon
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Chocolate chips
  • Three bowls
  • Spoons
  • Twisty ties (like bread ties) or small rubber bands
  • Scissors
  • Curling ribbon
  1. Step 1

Divide all of your ingredients into individual bowls, and put a spoon in each one.

  2. Step 2

For each cocoa cone, put 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons of cocoa into one of the plastic bags.

  3. Step 3

Twist the bag tightly, right above the cocoa.

  4. Step 4

Secure with a twisty tie or rubber band.

  5. Step 5

Cut off the excess plastic from above the twisty tie.

  6. Step 6

Slide this cocoa-filled bag into an empty bag. Place 3-4 table spoons of marshmallows into this bag, so that they're layered on top of the cocoa-filled bag.

  7. Step 7

Spoon 2-3 tablespoons of chocolate chips on top of the marshmallows.

  8. Step 8

Twist the bag shut, and secure with ribbon.

  9. Step 9

Curl the ends of the ribbon.

  10. Step 10

Add a tag (either hand-written, or made with your computer) that says, "Usually cones are freezing, but this one will warm you up. Just add some hot water, and stir into your favorite cup." In smaller print, add "3 tbs of cocoa mix per mug. Makes 2-3 servings."

Tips & Warnings
  • Pastry bags can be found at most craft stores.
  • Bags can be ordered online at sugarcraft.com (link below). The cost is $5.35 for 50 bags.
