Using a sharp knife, cut out a circle the size of the candle from the middle of the pumpkin. This will remove the stem. I used a paring knife to carve out the hole in my pumpkins. This seemed to work fairly well.

  2. Step 2

Scoop out the pumpkin seeds and pulp. Ornamental seeds are not edible so no need to save them for later! There is very little in these types of pumpkins so the mess should be minimal.

  3. Step 3

Place the candle inside the hole. You want the candle to be snug against the edges of the pumpkin. I used the tea lights encased in aluminum holders. This made changing out the candles much easier.

  4. Step 4

Place the pumpkin on the table and surround with fall foliage or other ornamental items. Decorate the fireplace mantel with lit pumpkins. The possibilities are endless!

Tips & Warnings
  • The ornamental pumpkins can be hard to cut through. Use caution with children. Parental supervision and assistance recommended.
  • Using pumpkin scented tea lights will enhance the appeal of this centerpiece.
