Fleece or felt scarves make great gifts and these scarves are quickly made in one afternoon. This is a great project for young teens to craft and wear or give to their friends as gifts. Consider making them in school colors to show team spirit. How about for a scouting project? They could also be made and donated to homeless shelters, making this craft a great outreach project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 3 different colors of fleece or felt fabric (1/4 yard each minimum) Sewing machine Scissors Water-soluble marking pencil/pen Ruler Masking tape (1/2 to 1 inch in width)
  1. Step 1

Determine the length you desire for the scarf.

  2. Step 2

Lay all three layers of fabric out on top of each other.

  3. Step 3

Cut through the three layers at once. Your scarf should be the length you determined by a width no less than 6 inches. Of course, you can make it wider if you prefer it that way.

  4. Step 4

Draw a line down the center of the top layer of cut fabric with the marking pencil.

  5. Step 5

Sew a single line down the middle of the three layers of cut fabric on the drawn line. Sewing through all three layers at once.

  6. Step 6

Using the ruler and marking pencil, mark a line every inch down the length of the scarf.

  7. Step 7

Tape a line down each side of the sewn line in the middle of your scarf. The result will be two lines of tape, one on either side of the sewn line. This determines the area you will not cut into.

  8. Step 8

Cut through all three layers at once. Cut on the drawn lines that are an inch apart on either side of the masking tape. Do not cut into the tape.

  9. Step 9

Remove the tape. Pick up the scarf and shake. It should now be a fluffy mix of three colors of fabric and it's ready to wear.

Tips & Warnings
  • Scissors could easily be replaced with a cutting wheel making the cutting go more quickly. The masking tape could be replaced by the water soluble pencil for accomplished cutters.
