Teaching your child manners is an important part of parenting. Table setting is a great way to teach children about proper table etiquette when they become old enough to carry plates and cups easily. These steps will make it easy for your child to learn the proper way to set a table without fussing or tears.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Printable table setting mats Dishes, cups, utensils Napkins
  1. Step 1

    Set out printable table setting mats to help guide your child.

  2. Step 2

    Show your child that the plate goes first in the center of the setting.

  3. Step 3

    Help your child place the cup in the upper right area of the setting.

  4. Step 4

    Have your child fold the napkin and place it on the left side of the plate.

  5. Step 5

    Let your child put the fork on top of the napkin.

  6. Step 6

    Instruct your child to put the knife on the right side of the plate with the spoon next to it.

  7. Step 7

    Repeat these steps for a few days and then try letting your child set the table without the place mat for guidance.

Tips & Warnings
  • After a little practice you can make the table more elaborate by adding a charger plate and a salad fork.
