How to Use Baking Soda to Deodorize a Trash Can

Freshen your recyclables before they're picked up for collection day. Sprinkle baking soda on top of your recyclables on a regular basis.

Clean your recyclables container. On collection day, clean your container by sprinkling baking soda on a wet sponge. Scrub with the sponge and baking soda. Rinse the container.

Reduce garbage can odors in trash bags. Sprinkle baking soda between garbage layers as they accumulate.

Reduce garbage can odors of the actual trash can. Sprinkle baking soda on the bottom of the can in order to absorb scents at the bottom of your trash can.

Wash and deodorize your trash can. On a regular basis, clean your garbage can using 1 cup baking soda per 1 gallon of water.

Tips & Warnings
Be sure to incorporate both methods: sprinkling baking soda onto accumulating layers and deep cleaning with water and baking soda. Though sprinkling baking soda helps deodorize, it only masks the odor. Use water and baking soda to do a full cleanse on your garbage can
