How to Create a Christmas Mouse and Find the Legend of the Candy Cane

Looking for a new project for a Christmas ornament? An ornament that has the meaning of Christmas behind it? A meaningful legend to pass down to your children and grandchildren?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Candy cane
  • Green felt
  • Red felt
  • 2 moveable eyes
  • 1 tiny red pom-pom
  • Glue gun
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Small stocking (optional) to put the mouse in
  • Legend of the Candy Cane Story (optional)
  1. Step 1
    All materials

    Gather all of your materials together and let's get started!

  2. Step 2

    Cut the green felt in a shape as shown in diagram. Then cut two slits for the ears. It is a good idea to make yourself a pattern out of paper if you are going to make more than one mouse.

    Cut out the red felt in the shape as shown in the diagram. Again, make a paper pattern.

  4. Step 4
    Add red pom pom nose
    Add red pom pom nose

    Carefully put a tiny drop of hot glue on the tip of the green pointed end and quickly put the tiny red pom pom on the glue and press.

  5. Step 5
    Add two eyes
    Add two eyes

    Carefully add one eye at a time. Put a tiny drop of hot glue on the place where the eyes should be. See diagram. To add an eye, wet the tip on your finger and pick up an eye and gently lay it on the drop of hot glue and press. Repeat for the other eye.

    Fold the ears long ways, as in the diagram.

    Gently push the folded edge into the slots that you had made in the green mouse body and pull through and until centered.

    This is what your Christmas mouse looks like without the candy cane. Very cute!

  9. Step 9

    Get ready for candy cane

    With your finger, gently pull the ears back through the slots enough to insert a candy cane.

  10. Step 10

    Insert the candy cane and then gently pull the ears even on both sides.

    This is how your completed candy cane Christmas mouse should look. Ready to hang on your Christmas tree!

    You may also put the Christmas mouse in a little stocking and even add the pamphlet entitled "The Legend of the Candy Cane" and give as a gift!
