Things You'll Need

- Candle votives
- Glass tray or cake stand
- Colorful fall leaves (optional)
Instructions
-
-
1
Arrange the apples on the tray or cake stand.
-
2
Mark the top of each apple with a dot where you will cut out for the candle. Don't just assume you will cut out around the stem since each apple will sit differently.
-
-
3
Hold a candle votive over the dot you marked on the top of one of the apples, and trace around the candle.
-
4
Cut out the circle you traced on top of the apple. Cut slightly larger than the circle and the same depth as the candle.
-
5
Scoop out the flesh inside of where you cut.
-
6
Sprinkle with lemon juice to keep from turning brown.
-
7
Insert the candle into the cutout.
-
8
Repeat Steps 3 through 7 for the remaining apples you are going to use.
-
9
Arrange the apples back on the tray or cake stand.
-
10
Add fall leaves around the apples and light the candles.

Tips & Warnings
Instead of making a centerpiece, float the apples in a galvanized bucket of water outside your front door. Before cutting the apples, be sure to float them in the water first to see which side stays upright, and then mark it with a dot so you know where to cut out for the candles.
