Slow-cooker barbecue chicken doesn't sacrifice flavor for convenience. Simply set it up and leave it alone to create tender and juicy chicken breast every time. Enhance your favorite store-bought barbecue sauce with a teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce or crank up the heat with a drizzle of sriracha sauce.
- 2 pounds skinless, boneless chicken breasts
- Sea salt
- Cracked black pepper
- Barbecue sauce
- Worcestershire sauce (optional)
- Sriracha sauce (optional)
Coat the bottom of the slow cooker with cooking spray. Pat the chicken dry with a paper towel. Lower the chicken breasts into the slow cooker.
Liberally season the chicken breasts with sea salt and cracked black pepper. Flip over the chicken breasts and repeat the seasoning. Pour 1 cup of your favorite barbecue sauce into a mixing bowl.
Pour 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire into the mixing bowl. Add a few squirts of sriracha sauce. Stir with a large spoon to create a sweet and spicy sauce.
Pour the contents of the mixing bowl over the chicken breasts. Cover the slow cooker and set it on high heat. Allow the chicken breasts to cook for four hours.
Allow the chicken to cool before transferring it to a cutting board. Shred the freshly cooked barbecue chicken breasts with a fork and knife. Serve it on a whole-wheat bun with coleslaw for a delicious twist on the traditional barbecue sandwich. You also might serve the shredded chicken over rice for a hearty and delicious main course. Slow cooker barbecue chicken also makes a great taco filling. Serve it in a crunchy taco shell with shredded lettuce, freshly grated cheese and a dollop of sour cream.
