Things You'll Need:
- 13 Popsicle/Craft Sticks
- Red Paint
- Blue Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Paper Plates for Paint and Glue
- Small White Stars Stickers
- Tacky Glue
- Sticky Back Magnet Tape (Optional)
-
Step 1
Cover your work surface with newspapers or a disposable plastic table cloth.
-
Step 2
Paint 3 sticks half blue. Paint 3 sticks blue on one side and red on the other. When the sticks are lined up, the blue halves will form the blue field on the American Flag. Paint 3 more sticks all red. Allow to dry.
-
Step 3
Take two unpainted popsicle sticks and cover lightly with glue. These will be the support base for the American flag.
Tacky glue works well for children's projects, as it dries quickly. If a group is doing this project, pour the glue into a paper plate and use an extra popsicle stick to spread the glue. -
Step 4
Place a half blue stick on the two glued sticks, horizontal to the glued sticks. The glued sticks should be about a half inch from the end of the painted stick. This is the top of the American Flag.
-
Step 5
Place a blue and red stick beneath the half blue stick, and continue to alternate colored sticks until they are all used. Be sure the kids put all the blue sticks together to form the field in the upper left corner of the American flag.
-
Step 6
Stick the stars on the blue field. Kids will not be able to put 50 stars on this project, so allow them to fill the field until it "looks right" to them.
-
Step 7
After the project is dry, stick 2 strips of magnet tape to the back.
