Instructions

    • 1

Design a game plan. Be realistic. Are you the kind of person who likes to do everything all at once or do you like to clean in small chunks at a time? Would you prefer the best of both worlds by segmenting a long period of time into small attainable chunks for each portion of the room?

    • 2

Plan a specific time to declutter your room.

    • 3

Recruit help. If you have a significant other or children, delegate duties to them.

    • 4

Work with boxes or bags. Have one for trash and the other for recycle. If you're indecisive, have one that's for the "maybe" pile.

    • 5

Throw out everything you do not need. Be merciless. If you haven't used an item in the last three months to a year, then it could be a sign to toss it out.

    • 6

Create a system to prevent clutter. If you need to place a garbage or recycle can in your room, then get one. If you need boxes to organize last season's clothes, then invest in it. The best way to stop clutter is to prevent it in the first place. Banish clutter by figuring out a system that can work for you.
