How to Cut Pink (and Blue) Foam Board Insulation To Size
Pink and blue foam core insulation helps keep the temperatures inside dwellings at a comfortable level. During summers, the foam core traps cool air inside the house, while during the winters it does the same thing with warm air. These foam boards are typically fastened between the studs on the interior of houses and other buildings. Measure the area that you will be covering with the pink or blue foam insulation. Use a measuring tape to determine both the height and width. Write these numbers down.

Place a piece of plywood or other scrap lumber on the floor or cutting surface. Place the foam insulation on top of the board.

Measure out the size of your foam core needed with a drywall square. Mark along the edges of the cut with a marker or pencil.

Continue to hold the drywall square in place. Extend the blade of the utility knife out to the furthest setting.

Press the utility knife through the foam core at the top of the cut. Slowly draw the knife down along the drywall square, cutting through the foam.

Continue cutting through the foam core along the marked path with the with the utility knife until all the sides are cut.

Brush off gently any bits of foam core or insulation covering clinging to the sides of the core.
